As a longtime, well-trained friend of the earth, working as a green Realtor is a natural step for Haven Hanford. A BS in Geology, Haven spent her college "field camp" time mapping geologic features throughout the west, and then spent six years with the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources primarily in wastewater management, septic systems, and floodplain mapping. She is certified in Geographic Information Systems and Global Positioning Systems, and will be working toward certification as an eco-realtor as well. Thanks to her unusually well-rounded background, Haven understands property at every level from soil to solar features. And she shares her understanding with friendly warmth that welcomes discussion and seeks the best outcome for all involved parties. These days, Haven, her husband, Pete, and their dog bowski live in the Montford community where they are presently renovating their turn of the century home. They love the cultural life of downtown Asheville and the trails, roads, and streams of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In her volunteer work, Haven serves on a Green Planning leadership committee spearheaded by the Land-of-Sky Regional Council, and on the Mexican subcommittee of Sister Cities, which pairs Asheville with Valladolid, Mexico. "I'm working to learn Spanish," she says, "but it's been stop-and-go." You can help. Call or drop by Haven's office and say "Hola" soon.
